Local residents yesterday said that it was a miracle that no-one was killed or injured in Dalry Road after cast iron guttering came crashing down into the street below onto the pavement. One large piece of the guttering spiked itself into the ice and remained standing. It is believed that the crash was due to the weight of snow and ice on the roof above. Workmen were quickly called in with an elevated platform to make the remainder of the guttering safe.
Meanwhile at almost the same time, Police closed off Dundee Street near Fountainpark so that Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service could remove some very dangerous icicles that had been worrying residents for some time. They were a safety issue and had to be dealt with said one of the police officers dealing with the issue.
