Love Eleven is the strapline for this year’s Edinburgh’s Hogmanay programme, which was officially launched this week at the Balmoral Hotel.
The well-attended launch saw the announcement of a brand new event for New Year’s Day entitled One Day, supported by the Scottish Government’s Edinburgh Festivals Expo fund.
One Day – which celebrates the singular date of 1.1.11 – will kick off with a celebration of music, art, literature and creativity when a selection of Scotland’s top singers, songwriters, musicians and performers will perform on-stage in a free and unticketed concert in ‘Resolution Square’, the newly named event space for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay located on Mound Precinct, outside the National Galleries of Scotland.
In addition, for the first time ever, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay presents a New Year’s Day evening event. The One Day Resolution Concert, curated by KT Tunstall, one of the country’s leading singer songwriters, brings together a collection of her favourite Scottish musicians on stage in Resolution Gardens at 5.00pm. The concert will be headlined by KT herself and includes performances from King Creosote, as well as Kassidy and Silver Columns.
Councillor Steve Cardownie, Festivals and Events Champion, City of Edinburgh Council, said: “When people think of Hogmanay, they think of Edinburgh – quite simply, nowhere does it better. This year’s programme promises to deliver yet another sensational way to celebrate the New Year in style – from top bands and a breathtaking fireworks display to the best of Scottish writing and musical talent on 1st January, there’s truly something for everyone.”
The headline acts for this year’s street party are Biffy Clyro and The Charlatans, joined by Billy Bragg.
One Day is part of a packed programme of events which run from Thursday 30 December 2010 to Sunday 2 December 2011. Full details of the programme, and tickets, can be found at www.edinburghshogmanay.com.
