Lindsay Strachan, who performs under the name Wave Of The Flood, is back with her new single Volcano – a track that marks a “bold step into fresh musical territory” for the Scottish singer-songwriter.

Produced by folk musician Kris Drever of Lau, Volcano pulses with double bass, sensual groove, and lyrical honesty, blending folk roots with smoky, understated jazz textures. The result is a song that simmers with unspoken emotion and restrained desire – an intimate exploration of holding back words to preserve fragile love.

The track features jazz-trained John McDonald’s double bass, which anchors the piece with irresistible depth, while Cameron Henderson’s playful pizzicato fiddle evolves into soaring bowed strings, enriching the arrangement with warmth and drama. Drever himself adds guitar and richly layered backing vocals, lifting Strachan’s voice into a lush soundscape.

Lindsay Strachan said: “I can’t help but get excited about Volcano – it was the first song I ever played in public when I began writing, so it feels like it’s come full circle. The talented folk behind this version have transformed it into something far beyond what I imagined. I recently performed a stripped back version while supporting Eddi Reader at Fringe By The Sea, but this production feels truly special.”

Volcano is the fourth single from Strachan’s upcoming album FortyFive, part of a year-long celebration of the 45rpm single to mark her 45th birthday. Each release showcases her gift for weaving emotional depth with melodic richness – an artistry that has already earned her growing acclaim and radio play across the UK.

Her previous singles – All Ends Will ComeAzalea, and The Lovers of St Kilda—have been championed by BBC Radio Scotland and praised for their lyrical sincerity and storytelling resonance. With Volcano, Wave Of The Flood continues to expand her sound, while staying true to the heartfelt songwriting at the core of her music.

Volcano will be available on all major streaming platforms from 12 September.
