Corstorphine Connections
Today at the council the still new Traffic Regulation Orders Sub-Committee will meet to decide whether the temporary orders in Corstorphine should become permanent.
This would mean changes to the bus gate camera – it would operate from 8am to 9.30am and 2pm – 4pm each day Monday to Friday. (This would not cover the early closing of Corstorphine Primary School on a Friday for some reason.)
The purpose of Corstorphine Connections is to:
Improve the safety of routes to schools in the area;
Understand and address issues with speed and volume of traffic in
residential streets;
Improve walking and cycling routes and access in the area;
Improve local air quality; and
Create a more attractive environment with new public realm spaces.
The criminal damage caused to the bus gate camera has cost the council more than £300,000 in repairs.
The Peebles Hoard
The Peebles Hoard may be the most important Bronze Age find in Scotland ever. National Museums of Scotland have taken it into their care as Treasure Trove after it was found by a metal detectorist.
They now need funding to continue with research.

Exhibition at the Parish Church of St Cuthbert’s – two more days only
This is a special exhibition to mark the 900th anniversary of the city becoming a Royal Burgh.
More than 900 pieces of artwork – from paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures, quilts and banners – are on display at the Parish Church of St Cuthbert in Princes Street Gardens until the afternoon of Friday 25 October.
Work by more than 300 artists, aged 5-90 years old, are on display to bring the city’s ancient history, traditions and culture to life.
The community art exhibition, which celebrates the city’s past, present and future, was formally opened by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Councillor Robert Aldridge, on Saturday.
He said: “I am really pleased to be with you today as we open the Edinburgh 900 art exhibition in the wonderful setting of St Cuthberts’.
“I understand that the aim is to bring people together from all backgrounds to celebrate Edinburgh’s 900 anniversary.
“Quite rightly it’s our communities that are front and centre in the celebrations .”
Sweet FA
Queen Margaret University which has formed a unique collaboration with an award-winning theatre company will co-produce two ambitious plays for Heart of Midlothian Football Club’s 150th anniversary celebrations next month.
The hugely popular and critically acclaimed shows, A War of Two Halves, and Sweet FA, will be revived in collaboration with BA (Hons) Acting & Performance and BA (Hons) Costume Design and Construction students at Queen Margaret University (QMU).
Taking place across November 2024, the shows will be performed at the renowned home of Hearts FC, Tynecastle Park.
Sir Paul Grice, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of QMU, said: “It’s incredibly exciting that our students will get the opportunity to perform at such an iconic Edinburgh venue and help Hearts mark their special 150th anniversary – an experience that I’m sure will stay with them for years to come.
“As we celebrate 150 years of Queen Margaret University in 2025, we take pride in the many meaningful collaborations we’ve fostered over the years, each of which reflects our deep commitment to supporting our stakeholders and enriching the communities we serve. This new partnership, merging the vibrant worlds of theatre and sport, perfectly embodies QMU’s core values of creativity, innovation, and community engagement.”
Heart of Midlothian FC has welcomed productions at Tynecastle Park since 2018 and recognises their vital contribution to the heritage and cultural understanding of the club and its history.
Throughout this year of Hearts’ 150-year celebrations, the club has found a number of innovative ways to commemorate this important milestone.
