Jason Kerr picked up the first TR Barbour Player of the Month award for the 2026/27 campaign, following a successful start to life as a Hibs player.

The 29-year-old, who joined from EFL League One side Wigan Athletic in June 2026, has become a key member of the team under Head Coach David Gray and has put in a succession of commanding displays in defence.

He helped claim three consecutive clean sheets – against KF Shkëndija, Partick Thistle and KAA Gent – and despite stiff competition, Kerr came out on top and reflected on his achievement in an interview with hibernianfc.co.uk.

He said: “I’m obviously delighted to have won the Player of the Month Award, and I wasn’t expecting it to be fair.

“There are a lot of players that have started really well and got a few goals, so I was delighted when they told me, and it’s good to make a positive impact on the games I have done well in, but I know there have been games that I could have better in as well.

“I feel like most of the games I’ve done well, and playing in Europe, I really enjoyed that.

“I think we’ve done well up until what happened against KAA Gent at Easter Road for the last ten minutes.

“We were so close, but I’ve been quite happy with my performances so far, and I know there’s a lot to improve on as well and we’ve got a lot of the season left to improve on.

“We were delighted with our three consecutive clean sheets, and I think that’s something we need to get back to.

“I think the games that we’ve lost, we needed to score a stupid amount of goals to actually win those games, but if we’re keeping clean sheets, there’s a good chance we’re going to win the game because we’re definitely going to score a goal.

“So I think we need to get back to being hard to beat, defending first, and then we’ll win more games that way.”

Kerr – who made his debut in Hibs home victory over KF Malisheva in the UEFA Conference League First Qualifying Round in July – has since played every minute for the side.

He provided an assist for Josh Campbell’s penalty in the memorable win over Rangers in August and scored a fine goal in the Play-Off defeat against KAA Gent at Easter Road.

“I’m delighted to have played every minute since my debut, and that’s why I signed with the Club,” he said.

“I feel like I can make a good, positive impact on the team.

“My debut was against KF Malisheva, and it was a great start, and we played really well that game, so I just want to keep making positive effects on the team and keep doing well if we can.

“I’m definitely still looking to be even better, and I’m definitely getting fitter with every game that comes.

“I was delighted to score against KAA Gent, not just because of the circumstances of being at Easter Road and it being a Play-Off, but I had so many chances in the weeks before to score a goal, and I hadn’t taken them, so it’s a big relief, if anything, to score that goal at Easter Road.

“I feel like I’m a threat in the box, and I feel like I should be converting more than I am right now, but I will.

“I’m really enjoying being effective up there, but I do need to score more goals.

“It was unbelievable to play in Europe for the games that we played.

“It’s just such a good experience, and that’s why we were so devastated when we didn’t quite make it because we missed out on another six chances to play in Europe.

“Hopefully, if we do well this season, we’ll get another chance at that, but it’s just an unbelievable experience that every player wants to do.”

Kerr has also enjoyed forging strong defensive partnerships with fellow centre-backs Grant Hanley, Jordan Obita, Jack Iredale and Warren O’Hora, who recently departed.

Meanwhile, next up for Hibs is a Premier Sports Cup quarter-final clash away at Ross County on Saturday, and victory in Dingwall would see Hibs qualify for the semi-finals at Hampden Park for the first time since November 2023.

And Kerr says he and his teammates can’t let the opportunity slip past them.

He added: “I’ve really enjoyed being part of the centre of defence, and it’s been a different challenge every game and having the opportunity to play with different players with a lot of experience, such as Jordan [Obita], Jack [Iredale], Grant [Hanley] and also Warren [O’Hora], until he left recently, and it has been a joy to play beside them.

“It’s a massive opportunity for us going into that game. It’s a chance to get to Hampden where everyone really wants to play.

“I think for everyone at Hibs, supporters, staff and players, it would mean everything to them to get to the semi-final and get to Hampden and have a real shot of fighting for a trophy.

“Obviously, as a Hibs fan as well, it would mean a lot to me and my family just to get there and have the experience. I’m really looking forward to the weekend.”
