New Hibs signing Alex Williams who joined on season-long loan switch from EFL Championship side West Bromwich Albion on the last day of the summer transfer window was ‘buzzing’ when he heard of the chance to come to Easter Road.
With the deal completed so late in the window, the right-wing back was unable to make it up in time for the match at 7.45pm, but was on his way to Edinburgh in the car after rushing home from training to pack his belongings ahead of the next chapter of his young career.
Less than 24 hours later, and the ninth summer addition was at HTC on Friday to train alongside fellow new recruit Marko Ivezić and complete his first interview with Hibs TV.
And Williams believes his move to Hibs will help him to become the very best footballer he can be and can’t wait to get started in green and white.
He said: “It’s good [to be here].
“Obviously it was pretty last minute in the window, but as soon as I heard that Hibs were interested, I was buzzing, and I was literally in the car straight here.
“I’ve only heard good things from players and coaches.
“I literally got up from training yesterday and was straight on the phone and then home packing bags and then headed up, but it’s exciting and a nice feeling to be getting this opportunity.
“It’s a massive Club, and I just can’t wait to get going, and I’m really looking forward to it.
“You hear quite a bit about Scottish football, and obviously Hibs are a massive Club, so you hear a lot about Hibs.
“I watched the game last night, and you see the fan base, and it’s an amazing opportunity for me to come here and show them what I can do, and the experience for me as well.
“I kicked-started my career last pre-season and made my EFL Championship debut and played in the EFL Cup as well, and then unfortunately broke my ankle, so I was out for about five months, and then struggled towards the back end of that season as I was just coming back into training.
“So, this pre-season was just about hitting the ground running again, and I knew I needed game time on loan this season, and this is the perfect place to be right now for me in terms of the level of the Scottish Premiership, and then also the level of the lads here as well.
“I like playing right wing-back, but as soon as I heard there’s a right wing-back, I thought it was the perfect role for me, really, and I’m excited to show you what I can do.”
