The rider of an electric off-road motorbike which was seen being ridden in an antisocial manner in Penicuik Public Park on Friday 21 August 2026 has been charged with a number of offences.
In addition the bike was seized by Community Officers.
A police spokesperson said: “These bikes cannot be used in a public place as they are the off-road version of the Sur-ron E-Bike – meaning it can only be ridden on private land with the land owner’s permission.
“The streets of Midlothian are public spaces and these bikes are NOT road legal.
“There are road legal models, however, these should have a registration plate, a speedometer, mirrors and lights, and they are restricted to 30mph, riders must be at least 16 years old with a valid provisional driving license and CBT certificate.
“Please call 101 if you have any information or wish to report these bikes being ridden in a dangerous manner in public spaces. Alternatively, you can use the ‘contact us’ form on the Police Scotland website.
“We will be seizing bikes that are used illegally wherever possible.”
