This play – or as I think of it – a theatrical experience – was a Scottish premiere.

The event combined music, video, and a robotic eel. The production values are very high and the amount of effort in Theatremaker Jaha Koo crafting the play must have been very significant.

But the show seemed to lack a focus.

Jaha Koo was relating anecdotes at the same time as cooking and serving Korean food as if he were in a pojangmacha (a late-night snack bar) as found in Seoul.

While he touched on themes of alienation, racism, and the meaning of home, I felt the message was too dispersed. Looming questions in my mind was why did he leave Korea to come to Europe in the first place and why was he away for 10 years?

If this was meant to be profound, it missed the mark by quite a distance.
