Glasgow-born David Moyes brings Everton north to Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Wednesday to face Newcastle United fresh from pre-season training in Germany and the signing of a new player to bolster his midfield.
The 63-year-old is currently re-shaping his squad and has recruited Danish midfielder, Christian Norgaard, from Arsenal on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Norgaard made only seven Premier League starts for The Gunners after a £15m move from Brentford last summer and he actually captained The Bees before moving across London. He is excited by the move.
Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough and Chelsea winger Tyrique George have also joined the club nicknamed The Toffees during the close season.
Everton play VfB Stuttgart on Saturday (16.00) after friendlies at Hamburg, where they won 2-1, and Stoke City, a 1-0 defeat. They drew 0-0 at Bolton and won 4-0 at Dundee on July 18, their first competitive game after the summer break.
Moyes’ men, who include Scotland international, Nathan Patterson, in their squad, start their new campaign at home to Crystal Palace on August 22 and their Scottish trip is a key part of the pre-season strategy.
The Scot (pictured courtesy of Everton FC) enjoyed a 19-year playing career that started with Celtic and included spells at Cambridge United, Bristol City, Shrewsbury Town, Dunfermline and Preston.
This is his second spell at the Merseyside club after spells at Manchester United, Real Sociedad in Spain’s La Liga and West Ham. The highlight there was securing ACF Fiorentina 2-1 in Prague to win the Europa Conference League, the first major trophy won by the London club for 43 years.
