Kye Thomson looked back on Edinburgh Monarchs’ six-point Scottish Cup, first-leg, victory over Glasgow Tigers at Ashfield and declared: “We did a fantastic job.”
The Armadale combine continued their red-hot form from Friday’s home win over Redcar Bears in the Cab Direct Championship into the mouth-watering tie in the West of Scotland.
And Monarchs powered to a 48-42 winners in a match which went to the wire.
The visitors travelled along the M8 with confidence high after their BSN Series victory there earlier this season.
And former Tigers star, Dan Thompson, set the tone by seizing on a mistake from Glasgow racer, Mario Hausl who hit the front in Heat One. The young German was under constant pressure from Thompson and fell leaving Monarchs to take a 5-1 advantage. They were never behind after that in a tense match.
Thomson (pictured), who lost his steel shoe in the last race, said: “We really wanted to win and it was actually quite similar to last time here. We know what to expect and what we needed to do.”
He added: “To finish of with an advantage in Heat 15 is awesome. It definitely wasn’t easy. I lost my steel shoe so I think I almost pulled my hamstring trying to keep my foot off the ground so it maybe wasn’t smooth or pretty, but we got the job done.’
