A South Queensferry seafood restaurant is vying for four major industry awards following a successful first year of trading.
The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack in South Queensferry, which opened in the former Frankie & Benny’s unit at Ferrymuir Retail Park last year, has entered several UK and Scottish hospitality competitions.
The family-run business is competing for Best Restaurant at the National Fish & Chip Awards, UK Top 10 Restaurant at the Fry Awards, Best New Business at the Scottish Licence Trade News (SLTN) Awards, and Best Restaurant at the Scottish Fish & Chip Awards.
Operated by Bryan Coghill alongside his wife Michelle, head chef son Jack, and daughter-in-law Sarah, the 180-seater venue previously secured the runner-up spot for Best Newcomer at the National Fish & Chip Awards shortly after its launch. The family also operates the Jack ‘O’ Bryan’s restaurant in Dunfermline.
Discussing the upcoming awards season, Bryan Coghill said: “The summer season sees our fish & chip industry once again reach out to operators to share their success stories. They want to see the best takeouts and best restaurants across the country entering these various awards.
“We welcomed the opportunity to enter these awards. They may take up time and money, but are very much worth it for the traction they bring to the business. We felt we had created something special in bringing The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack to fruition, making use of a redundant restaurant building which has been brought back to life.”
In addition to its awards push, the restaurant is raising funds for local charity Cash for Kids by asking customers to donate the cost of “invisible” fish suppers via QR codes on its tables. The business also sponsors local youth football team KSQ Galaxy & Rapids.
Coghill added: “We’re currently asking for donations of ‘invisible’ fish suppers. All money raised will go to Cash for Kids whom it’s our pleasure to support. We’re always looking to give something back to our community.”
