Scotland star Scott McTominay’s legendary overhead kick which helped seal the national side’s place in the 2026 World Cup has received a knitted tribute on an Edinburgh post box.
A nondescript post box on the corner of Harrison Road in the Scottish capital had a mysterious makeover earlier this week, with an unknown but skilled knitter placing a masterfully-crafted artwork atop it.
The addition is the latest in Scotland’s World Cup fever, with flags, banners and more backing Steve Clarke’s team appearing across Edinburgh and beyond.

The installation consists of a knitted green topper stretched over the head of the post box, with a white circle in the middle of it, meant to reflect the pitch at Hampden where McTominay netted the wonder-strike.
Held up by wires in the middle of the topper, appearing to be floating in midair, is the model of the 29-year-old himself, mid jump as he connects with a knitted football to send it goalward.
Whilst minuscule in nature, the figure bears a noted resemblance to the Napoli player, sporting his navy Scotland kit with the three white stripes of the Adidas sponsor down the side, his blonde hair and even the orange boots he wore in the match.
The same post box on Harrison Road had previously been home to another topper paying tribute to the Scotland national rugby team, and The Edinburgh Reporter believes it was the work of the same unknown knitter. If it is you then let us know!
