The roof of a house in Dalkeith has been completely destroyed after a fire during a massive thunderstorm, which affected the entire country.
Images from the scene show a house on Pheasant Grove, Dalkeith ablaze in the early hours of the morning, with fire crews battling to control the fire.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) say four appliances and a specialist resource were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports at 3:24am.
There were no casualties, and fire crews left the scene at around 8am after controlling the blaze and ensuring the area was safe.
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain had been in place for the entire country since around 3pm yesterday, and lightning strikes and thunder were reported in Edinburgh from around 3am – after which time the fire was reported.
An SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 3:24am on Friday, 26 June, to reports of a dwelling fire on Pheasant Grove, Dalkeith.
“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and a specialist resource to the scene.
“There were no casualties and crews left the scene at 8am after ensuring the area was made safe.”
The thunderstorm followed a dramatic turn in the weather, with a three-day heatwave immediately preceding the storm.
Jagged streaks of lightning were visible in the skies above Edinburgh.
