The Balmoral hotel has launched the “Be a Scot for the Day” experience, aimed at suite guests interested in learning more about the country’s culture, ancestry and traditions.

The hotel says the experience is designed for “all who feel a connection to Scotland” through heritage, curiosity or a love of its culture, and offers a ceremonial moment to recognise guests as an official Scot for the day.

Guests will embark on a personalised journey into Scotland’s history and cultural identity, tracing clan ancestry or discovering the stories, landscapes and traditions that define the nation.

The experience will continue with Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers, where guests will explore the meaning behind tartans, selecting one tied to their name or creating a bespoke design, before trying their hand at a private bagpipe lesson.

The Balmoral is located right at the heart of the Scottish capital.

The experience will also include an expert-led whisky tasting in the hotel’s whisky bar, SCOTCH, to explore whisky regions, and a “Taste of Scotland” dining experience, where storytelling, folklore and regional cuisine combine.

It concludes in a celebratory officiating moment, where guests receive a certificate naming them an official Scot for the day, alongside an engraved quaich by Hamilton & Inches – the traditional “cup of welcome” – or an engraved whisky tumbler, also crafted by Hamilton & Inches.

General Manager of The Balmoral, Andrew McPherson, said: “This experience is a celebration of everything that makes Scotland, and The Balmoral, so special.

“We wanted to create something truly personal, not just a stay, but a genuine connection to our heritage and sense of welcome. It’s a joyful, memorable way for guests to feel part of Scotland.”
