A 39-year-old male from Prestonpans has been sentenced to eight months imprisonment for a series of theft by shopliftings in East Lothian.

Police in the area have welcomed the sentence and reiterated their commitment to bringing offenders to justice.

East Lothian Community Inspector Alan King said “This type of custodial sentence is welcomed as a positive step in reducing retail crime, which can have a significant impact on local businesses and their staff.

“It highlights the increased efforts being made by East Lothian officers to target serial offenders and keep our communities safe.

“We remain committed in bringing offenders to justice, and will continue working closely with retail partners to achieve this”
