On Friday 8 May Fettes College is opening its doors, inviting visitors into the school as well as supporting local community activities.
The Community Engagement Day is an opportunity for students at the school to support environmental projects throughout the city, visit primary schools, including the Star of the Sea Primary School and Pirniehall Nursery, care homes in Edinburgh and work with a number of community organisations.
Fettes students will also plant up the Stockbridge roundabout, collaborating with The Flora Stevenson Primary School and St Ninian’s Church, take part in a Water of Leith clean up, assist Granton Community Gardeners and visit Starbank Park and Inverleith Park to help there.
Other activities involve bringing art and music to the local community through the making and donating of art packs for Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and performing at venues including the LifeCare Centre.
Local residents are invited in to have coffee, learn about the history of the school and take a tour round the building with a student. Young people from the FetLor Youth Club will engage in team-building activities including the school’s on campus low ropes course. The school recently raised more than £16,500 for the club in a charity run.
