Fettes College were the only one of the Edinburgh teams in action at the SRU Boys’ Schools Cup finals to come from behind at half time and go on to lift a trophy when the annual competitions took place at Murrayfield.

Fettesian determination saw the team overturn a 7-14 interval deficit and go on to defeat George Heriot’s 31-19 in the under-18 plate final, one of eight encounters on the day.

Try-scorers for Fettes, runners-up in the same competition two years earlier, were Lucas Scott, Cody Adams, Lennan Robertson, Tommy Burnett of Leys and Tom Masson who was awarded “player of the match”. Captain George Muddiman kicked three conversions.

In other finals involving capital schools George Watson’s took the under-18 cup with a 33-21 win over Strathallan, Luca Anderson being “player of the match” while the under-16 shield went to Edinburgh Academy, captained by Ben Hodge, son of former Scotland stand off, Duncan. With Ben named “player of the match” Edinburgh Academy defeated Loretto 57-7 with almost all their points coming in the first half.

The under-16 cup final went the way of Stewart’s Melville who saw off Merchiston Castle by 21-12. Flanker Rory Finlayson was named “player of the match” for the winners.
