The Hibs players were “buzzing” after beating city neighbours Hearts at Oriam on Sunday afternoon according to midfielder Jess Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald opened the scoring after 48 minutes with her first goal for the Club as the ball landed to her from a corner kick from her Irish colleague Ciara Grant.

Hearts then replied in the 64th minute through Georgia Timms, but that wasn’t enough for the hosts as Rosie Livingstone brilliantly struck home in the dying moments of the game to secure the three points for Hibs.

Speaking to Hibs TV after the clash, the Irish midfielder described the mood in the squad after pulling off an important win.

“We’re all buzzing, as you can see. Everyone was just delighted to get the three points on the board.

“We needed it badly, and it was just a great shift from the team, I think, to get the three points.”

Grant’s corner found Fitzgerald in the centre of the box – after what the 19-year-old described as a ‘scramble’ – and she went on to finish well as the ball hit the post and found its way into the net.

“I just remember a corner came in, and it was just a bit of a scramble in the box. I just thought to hit it, and then thankfully it hit the post and went just about in.”

After Hibs’ late clincher through Livingstone, Hibs had to play a further four minutes of injury time, and Fitzgerald told how the team rallied together to make sure they remained relaxed.

“I think everyone just said to each other, ‘stay calm, stay connected, and don’t concede’ – that was the main thing.

“I think we all did that really well. So, just credit to the team, I think, as well for that win.”

After a busy spell with three games in eight days, Hibs Women now have a 10-day break before returning as they face Glasgow City at Petershill Park on April 1st.

With the Hibees staying undefeated during those three games that were played, Fitzgerald said she was “delighted” to get the five points on the board.

“We’re buzzing (to be unbeaten through the week).

“The split is tough; there are a lot of games in about a week, so we’re just delighted to get a good few points on board and take a break now and prepare for City next week.”
