Hibernian FC Women beat Montrose 6-1 with a dominant display throughout the entire 90-minutes at Meadowbank yesterday.
Libby Smith netted a perfect hat-trick for the second weekend running as fellow attackers Aoife Colvill, Tiree Burchill and Jas McQuade all also got on the scoresheet.
The 6-1 victory was a deserving scoreline and Hibs only conceding due to a one-off defensive mishap which led to an own goal.
Head coach Joelle Murray was delighted with her side’s clinical edge.
Speaking to Hibs TV after the match, Murray was quick to praise her players and was thrilled by the attacking output of her ruthless side.
She said: “I thought it was a very strong team performance; the players that started, the players that came off the bench impacting.
“I thought all round it was a really impressive performance in windy conditions.
“It’s fantastic to see the goals spread about the team, especially that forward line. The front four all contributing today, which is fantastic.
“We obviously signed Libby to give us those goals and she’s done that in abundance. It’s her second hat trick of the season and I’m sure she’ll be hungry for more.
“But I think the most pleasing thing is the chances that we created and the fact that we were clinical today.”
Smith was pleased with the team performance but insists more goals could have been scored.
“I thought it was a good game. Obviously, there were plenty of goals, lots of people contributing.
“I still think we could have been more clinical, but that’s me, obviously, as a striker, wanting to score more. But no, a good game.
“[The squad is] very competitive. I think in training during the week, you can see it. Everyone’s pushing for starting places.
“It’s only going to be good for us in the long run. It brings up the standard and the quality.”
