A goal in each half from Kirsty Morrison and Kathleen McGovern gave the Hibernian Women a comfortable 2-0 victory over Motherwell at Meadowbank Stadium.
Head Coach Joelle Murray lauded the impact of goalscorers but remained “frustrated” by her side’s showing.
“The objective was to get the three points,” Murray told Hibs TV. “The girls have done that. We asked them for a clean sheet. They’ve given us that.
“But I think, overall, we’re fairly frustrated and disappointed with a lack of quality or consistent quality across the 90 minutes. We got both of those objectives, but I think, overall, there is a bit of frustration and disappointment.
“She (Morrison) was unbelievable. Kirsty is such an intelligent player, such a creative player. The way that she took her goal was just Kirstie Morrison-esque.
“The deep run, the composure to take it round the keeper and the composure to put it in the back of the net. A very, very good performance today from Kirsty Morrison, one that she can be proud of.”
After shrugging off an injury picked up late last year, ‘McGov’ has now netted twice in four appearances – two of which were off the bench – since returning to match fitness.
“I’m delighted, she’s delighted, we’re delighted for her,” Murray commented. “She’s worked so hard to get back to this place.
“To get her back on the score sheet, it was a very important goal because it was one-nil – regardless of how dominant or not you are, it is always a difficult scoreline.
“To get that second gave us a little bit of comfort, a little bit of breathing space, and it was great to get her back on the score sheet today.”
Speaking to Hibs TV after the final whstle, McGovern said: “It was a bit of a frustrating one, I would say. The main thing was three points today and back to winning ways. That’s a positive.
“On a personal note, it’s good to be back on the scoresheet, gaining more minutes in my legs and feeling really good about myself. But, I think overall, we’re quite frustrated with our performance.
“We didn’t play to the standards that we’re capable of and didn’t move the ball quick enough in certain moments of the game.
“I think Motherwell made it difficult for us, especially when they went back to that back five after 25 minutes in the game. Once we moved the ball at a tempo, especially for the last 10 minutes before the half-time, you could see how much better we were becoming.
“But in the final third as well, I think it’s a bit of frustration with chances that we probably created and couldn’t put away. But, at the end of the day, it’s three points.
“It’s good to get three points again today and a nice training week this weekend. Going to the Aberdeen game, hopefully high in confidence.
“Obviously, they’re a decent side as well going for top six. It’ll be good to have that to look forward to.
“Hopefully it’ll be another three points on the board, especially with a split in our sights. We’re ready to gather momentum going into the split.”
