Police Scotland welcomed 161 recruits at a series of ceremonies across the country yesterday, Thursday, 15 January, 2026.
The 161 probationers received their warrant cards as they made the declaration of a constable.
There are 108 males and 53 females in this latest intake, bringing officer establishment to 16,555.
The new recruits were joined by seven special constables who also made the declaration at the oath of office ceremonies.
Chief Constable Jo Farrell KPM addressed the new recruits at a ceremony in Police Scotland’s Headquarters, Tulliallan, while Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson welcomed the probationers at a ceremony in Fettes Police Station, Edinburgh. Senior officers from local policing divisions attended the ceremonies with officers from Learning, Training and Development.
Chief Constable Jo Farrell KPM said: “Today is an important moment for new recruits, marking the beginning of their professional journey with Police Scotland and I thank them for their commitment to serving our communities.”
The officers will deploy to communities on 18 May, 2026, following the first stage of their two-year probationer training.
