Livingston have confirmed that Portugal-born defender Babacar Fati has joined the West Lothian club on a three-year deal.
The Guinea-Bissau international joins from SJK Seinajoki for an undisclosed fee and the left-back kick-started his career in his native country with Sporting CP before moving to Finland.
The 25-year-old has appeared in European competitions and David Martindale, Livingston’s manager, said: “Babacar is coming in for a six-figure investment and on a long-term contract.
“He is definitely bringing value and creating an asset that can only bode well for the future.”
The January transfer window has seen three players recruited on permanent transfers and one on loan and Martindale said Babacar brings competition in the left-back area.
That is particularly important, he added, given Adam Montgomery’s recent injury relapse.
And the men from The Home of the Set Fare have also confirmed that goalkeeper Jamie Smith has been recruited on a short-term deal until the end of the season from Hamilton Academical.
He has been capped at under-17 level and comes with great potential. He will back-up Livi No 1, Jerome Prior.
