Derby goalscorer Josh Campbell said that hearing the fans sing ‘Sunshine on Leith’ was the icing on the cake after Hibs 3-2 victory over Hearts.
He is now looking forward to heading directly into another huge William Hill Premiership clash this time against Aberdeen.
The midfielder was introduced as an early substitute at Easter Road and promptly headed in our second of the afternoon, sparking euphoric scenes inside the packed-out ground.
David Gray’s men then wrapped up a festive Edinburgh Derby victory heading into a busy winter period that shows no signs of slowing down.
“In the derby, as a Hibs fan, it’s all your dream of,” he told Hibs TV. “And then you get to hear that song at the end. It’s icing on the top of the cake, isn’t it?
“The Gaffer mentioned it before the game that we needed a statement win, and that was a statement win. You’re beating your local rivals on the top of the league, at home.
“You need to build on something like that, and there’s no better time to have a game than during the week under the lights on Tuesday.”
Sixth-place Aberdeen visit Easter Road tomorrow Tuesday (30 December; 7:45pm kick-off) as they seek to draw level on points with Hibs following a draw against Dundee United at the weekend.
While some may wish for time off across the festive season, the same can not to be said for Campbell, who is relishing another battle in Leith against strong opposition.
“We’ve got Aberdeen on Tuesday. It’s perfect, the games are coming thick and fast. This time last year, we managed to win, I think it was three games at this time in the calendar. We can go on and do that this time, and we can climb that table.
“It’s really important [to put a run of wins together]. As I said, the games are coming thick and fast, which is the best thing. You’re straight into another game on Tuesday. If you can get another three points there, you build on that again, you move into the Saturday game [against Kilmarnock] as well.
“Aberdeen are a very good team. They bring a big support every year. The fans always help them down here. We’re around them on the table, it’s a big fixture. But as I said, we need to build on [the Hearts win] and we can use that to take it into the game.”
