Centre-back Scarlett Herron opened the scoring with a powerful half-volley in the first half.

But Georgia Carter equalised within five minutes.

Rachael Boyle hit the post while Montrose keeper Lauren Perry was forced into multiple key saves — but the hosts held on to secure a crucial point.

“We’re very frustrated,” Scott told Hibs TV after the final whistle “I think we let ourselves down a little bit today, collectively as a group.

“We’re together in it with the players. We feel the hurt that they do. None of us are very happy tonight.

“I think we need to pass a lot of credit on to Montrose. I thought they played as well today as I’ve seen them for a while. Very organised, very disciplined in their work. So, huge praise to them.

“But I think we’ve got to do better ourselves and we’ll reflect on that during the week.”

Key players were missing for Hibs with top scorer Kathleen McGovern, midfielders Hannah Jordan, Jess Fitzgerald and Kirsten Reilly, and centre-back Linzi Taylor all ruled out.

“There’s no doubt it’s a test to our squad, but we’ll make no excuses. We believe the players that are in the squad available are good enough to win the game today. We’ve not managed to do so. And that’s the tricky part.

“We won’t make or look for excuses. I think it’s too easy to do that. We believe in the group that came here today to win the match. And we’ve just fallen short.”

Attentions quickly turn to next weekend’s match, as we host Celtic at Meadowbank Stadium in the final fixture of the year.

Looking to end a historic 2025 on a high, Scott’s side will need to reflect on today’s result and revert ‘back to basics’ to seal a fitting victory next Sunday.

“I think we need to look like we lacked a little belief today, which is unusual for this group. It took us a long time to adjust to the setting, to get into the game, to do the common things that we see regularly from them.

“Montrose had that bit of belief, that bit of extra energy about them. So, we need to probably just get ourselves back to basics, reset the team that we believe we are, do the things better that we can do well.

“And we’ll go into the [Celtic] game positive. I don’t want to call it a bounce back match, but it’s a good game to go into.”
