Hibernian Women’s winger Tegan Bowie was “buzzing” after Sunday’s 3-2 victory over city rivals Hearts at Oriam in the Sky Sports Cup quarter-final.
Her solo finish, following Georgia Timms’ opener and Kathleen McGovern’s equaliser, paved the way for the excellent away win.
Hibs were dominant but Hearts provided a nervy end for the Hibs fans in attendance as Bayley Hutchison grabbed a late goal to bring Hearts back into the match. However, this turned out to be a consolation.
“We’re buzzing,” Bowie told Hibs TV. “It’s always tough coming to the Oriam to play Hearts, but we managed it. I think the second half was a much better performance from us; we popped it about, and we knew the third goal was crucial for us, and we were able to just see the match out.”
Bowie put Hibernian Women ahead in the 40th minute, as she brilliantly raced past two Hearts defenders to split the defence open and calmly put the ball past Rachael Johnstone.
“I can’t even remember it! I think Ellis played it through, and I’ve toe-poked it round, and I’ve just managed to get on the end of it, so I can’t complain.”
Hibs victory over their city neighbours provides them a place in the hat for the Sky Sports Cup semi-final – where they will either face Celtic, Glasgow City or Rangers, and Bowie told HibsTV how the side are “aiming to win” the competition.
“Obviously we got to the final last year, and it probably wasn’t our best, but that’s what we’re aiming for: to get to the final and aim to win.
“We want to win as many trophies as we can and get the club back to where it should be.”
Next up for Hibs Women is another Edinburgh Derby, as they host Hearts at Easter Road in a ScottishPower Women’s Premier League clash, alongside competing for the Capital Cup as the Hibees look to reclaim the trophy.
