Hibernian Women beat Partick Thistle 3-0 in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League.
Kirsty Morrison opened the scoring with a powerful close-range strike in the 11th minute, and Kathleen McGovern – fresh off a Scotland goal in the recent international break against Switzerland – doubled Hibernian’s lead in the 80th minute with a brilliant header from an Ellis Notley corner kick.
Notley then went from provider to scorer as she put Hibs three ahead with a finish from 20 yards in the final moments of the match.
Despite the victory head coach Grant Scott was disappointed with the team’s performance.
“We’ve taken another three points. That was a tough one,” Scott told Hibs TV. “I think Partick Thistle had set up to minimise our opportunities. I think they’ve done that really well.
“I think overall we were disappointed with our performance, and a lot of the things we’d set out to do didn’t quite work today, or we didn’t carry them out properly.
“Look, when you score another three goals and another clean sheet, and it’s another three points, we’ve just got to keep pushing on.”
The match was met with incredibly tough conditions, with it being a cold and windy afternoon at Meadowbank, but Grant Scott insisted the wind did not damage his side’s “game plan”.
“Not the game plan (on whether the conditions affected his side’s game plan), I think possibly our execution. Look, we’re adamant we’re not going to have any excuses this year. I think we have set standards that we’ve fallen below today, and the players will feel that.
“The players know when they’ve not played so well. It doesn’t need me to tell them. If we can play that badly and still come away with a win, it just shows the progress we’ve continued to make.”
We now face back-to-back Edinburgh Derbies, with the first meeting with Hearts coming on Sunday 9 November at Oriam – with a 3pm kickoff in the Sky Sports Cup.
Grant Scott has labelled the fixtures as “great games to look forward to” but insists his side need to be “better” than what they produced at home to Partick Thistle.
“They’re great games to look forward to. I think we certainly need to be better than we were today to have any chance in those games,” Scott told HibsTV.
“It’s an interesting one having them back-to-back. It’s a cup match and a league match, and there are different dynamics in both situations. We’ll just prepare as normal.
“For us, it’s another game. We’ll try and ignore some of the hype around it. We’ll enjoy it, certainly, when we get there.”
“For us, it’s just back on the pitch during the week. We’ll get our work done then and hopefully be ready to play.”
