Causey Development Trust invites cyclists to drop by on Saturday afternoon to celebrate active travel with them.
The campaign group meet at West Crosscauseway each Saturday for coffee and a chat, but this weekend from 3pm on Saturday cyclists can also get some free cycle care.
The Trust is the group behind the desire to realign the street at West Crosscauseway to reduce vehicular traffic and reclaim the area for people to linger, walk or cycle. They have had some wins and some losses during the 18 years they have campaigned.
Members of the Trust will be at the Causey on Saturday afternoon to share their story and their dreams of turning the space into a welcoming public realm where everyone could gather safely.
In the past the Trust has used many ways of trying to draw attention to the area and what simple changes could do to radically alter the space. One year they turned the traffic island into a real island with sand and umbrellas..
Their plans include wider pavements, segregated cycle lanes, seating, greenery, and space for cultural and social events, all designed to foster neighbourliness and
West Crosscauseway is a strategic junction of existing cycle routes and close to The Meadows, Arthur’s Seat, and the historic Innocent Railway path, The Causey is perfectly placed to become a hub for active travel, as well as cultural events.
The free bike chain cleaning and safety checks are courtesy of The Wee Spoke Hub, and Edinburgh based collective committed to making bike maintenance accessible for all.
It will also be an opportunity for cyclists to learn some basic maintenance to keep them on the road.
