Hibernian Women’s head coach Grant Scott was “delighted” by the team’s dominant 9-0 victory over Motherwell in the Sky Sports Cup second round.
Eight different scorers all got on the scoresheet at Meadowbank Stadium as Hibs secured their place in the draw for the quarter-finals following last season’s journey to the final.
After the final whistle Scott said: “I’m delighted with that one. I need to watch it back now as I think it’s a strange result.
“Motherwell are a better team than that scoreline probably suggests. They’ve maybe had an off day and gifted us a few things.
“But, ultimately, we’ve got to take our chances when they come and we’ve done that today, thankfully.
“And again, the girls have locked out an opponent with a clean sheet. All in all, I’m just delighted to be through that one and into the next round.”
Scott also openly admitted his side took a while to get going in EH7.
“Something we stressed to the players before this one is that Motherwell have caused us problems in the past.
“We’ve come through games with victories, but it’s never been easy. And I think in the first 10 to 25 minutes, we thought we’d been a bit sloppy. We looked a bit lethargic.
“We didn’t move the ball well and just invited that pressure from Motherwell. And I think they took advantage of that really well. The shape of their team looked good.
“It’s almost our first proper true attack that we’ve gone up and scored with. But I think we were right to forewarn the girls that Motherwell would come at us a bit there. We’ve done well to get through that dodgy spell.”
