New £15 million community fund launched
The Regenerative Futures Fund is a new ten year community fund which is aimed at putting “decision making in the hands of those who are most often excluded”.
The pioneering initiative is intended to help tackle poverty, racism and the climate emergency in the capital while improving lives. The multi-million pound fund is designed to empower local communities to drive lasting change. This large pool of funding will offer long term and unrestricted monies to give organisations the freedom to plan long term. This money will put a stop to the “sticking plaster” solutions to societal issues.
Consultation on student flats
The council has set up a consultation on purpose built student flats (PBSA) for members of the public to have their say on non-statutory planning guidance. This will support development plan policy dealing with the development of PBSA in the city. The council says it wants to ensure that the PBSA is of a good standard and built in appropriate locations.

To mark International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March Vue venues in Edinburgh will screen six inspiring big screen stories – both past and present – created by and starring incredible women.
Award-winning legal drama Erin Brockovich will return to the big screen to mark its 25th anniversary. Starring Julia Roberts, who won Best Actress at the Academy Awards for the role, this empowering tale follows the true story of an unemployed single mother who becomes a legal assistant and takes on a California power company accused of polluting a city’s water supply.
Also arriving at Vue Edinburgh Omni centre for IWD is a look at one of the UK’s best loved models, Twiggy. Directed by Sadie Frost, the documentary explores the upbringing, career, relationships and everything else that made the fashion superstar the woman she is today. This is the first time that Twiggy has ever told her life’s story first-hand and features contributions from the likes of Charlotte Tilbury, Joanna Lumley, Dustin Hoffman and Paul McCartney.
Also screening on Saturday is On Falling, from female director and writer Laura Carreira, which tells the story of Aurora, a Portuguese worker in a Scottish warehouse. Join this heartfelt tale as Aurora navigates loneliness and alienation in an algorithm-driven gig economy as she seeks meaning and connection.
Offering comic release this IWD is One of Them Days, which partners Keke Palmer and SZA as best friends who discover that one of their boyfriend’s has blown their rent money. This misfortune sees them embark in a race against the clock that sees them going to extremes to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact.
