A bespoke whisky business has been awarded a licence in the heart of a busy West Lothian town popular with visitors.
West Lothian Licensing Board agreed to award a premises licence to The Wee Whisky Shop in Linlithgow High Street run by Andrew Ure.
Gordon Emslie, an agent for the applicant, told councillors: “My client took on the lease of the property last year with the intention of opening a premium whisky shop.
“The shop offers a range of specialised and bespoke whiskies and other premium spirits targeting to the whisky connoisseur and tourist market.
“The on sales areas will be utilised for whisky tasting sessions and small whisky themed events.”
Mr Emslie added: “My clients currently run the Muiravonside cafe in Falkirk. They also run the cafe at Zetland Park in Grangemouth.
“They also manage a number of outdoor licensed events throughout the year and the whisky shop is a crucial part of their plans to expand their overall business.”
“Since December my clients have been operating under occasional licences, and we are grateful to the board for their permission to enable this to happen. This has also allowed them to extend their whisky offering.
“The next step will be launching an online whisky auction in the coming months.”
