Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre was silent on Monday, just 24 hours after a jubilant Scotland women celebrated winning their nerve-jangling qualifier to join Europe’s elite in Germany next year.

A share of the chat in the immediate aftermath of the hard-earned, 2-1 victory over Wales in difficult conditions at rain-soaked Glasgow Green, centered around a disallowed goal.

Frances Lonergan latched onto a ball on the left hand side of the opposition D and fired it low and hard into the net. No goal said the umpire but the main picture shows the incident around the time when the Western Wildcats player connected.

Judge for yourselves. Other pictures show Scotland attacking and there were several other near misses as the Tartan Hearts came from 1-0 down to edge dogged and determined Wales.

One shows Clydesdale Western star Bronwyn Shields powering down the right wing before crossing and the other shows the Welsh goalkeeper saving from a close-in Heather McEwan shot.

It was McEwan to claimed the game-winner after 37 minutes and sparked the celebrations in the stadium at the final whistle.

Now, Scotland’s coaches are already planning for next year and head coach, Chris Duncan, stressed: “There is a lot of hard work to do. We want to go there and compete.”

The venue is Monchengladbach in Northern Germany where Scotland played last year.
