Man’s best friend has its own national day. Today it is the turn of our four legged friends to be celebrated on National Dog Day.

And Galashiels is aiming to become known as one of the most dog-friendly destinations in the Scottish Borders.

The town has a growing number of cafés, shops, attractions, and accommodation providers which roll out the welcome mat for dogs.

The region’s marketing organisation, the South of Scotland Destination Alliance, has recently launched a new toolkit to help more local businesses in the Borders and neighbouring Dumfries & Galloway to become more dog-friendly and attract more visitors.
