Edinburgh’s Patrick Wilson is one of two Scots hoping to have done enough to secure a bipartite spot at the Paralympic Games in France this summer.

Edinburgh’s Patrick Wilson is hoping for a place in this summer’s Paralympics after gaining a Boccia bronze medal in Sao Paulo

The other contender for a place in the Boccia competition is Stephen McGuire, from Lanarkshire.

With McGuire winning gold and Wilson bagging the bronze at the Sao Paulo World Cup, both players are crossing their fingers for a late Paralympic Games selection.

Qualification more is now more difficult than ever and the Scots didn’t manage to earn selection through the world rankings or the qualifying tournament. So, hopes now rest on World Boccia who take a holistic view, looking at rankings, results and circumstances such as injury or illness before agreeing a couple of slots per classification.

Patrick said : “I’m happy to have got my second medal of the year. Doing three international tournaments in quick succession has been a real challenge but my goal has always been to strengthen my case that I deserve a bipartite slot in Paris – and I feel I’ve done that.”

Like his compatriot Patrick is also expected to rise up the rankings after winning that bronze and enjoying good form so far in 2024.
