Scott Mudie has confirmed the dates for the Kingdom Fly Fishing Championship which will have two heats and a final.

Eden Springs hosts heat one on Saturday, June 1, and there are 26 spaces and Ballo Fishery is the venue for heat two on Sunday, July 14, and there are 20 spaces here.

The final is back at Eden Springs on Saturday, September 28, and there are 26 slots. Entry is £25 and is non-refundable and must be paid before places are confirmed.

Anglers then pay their fishing fees on the day of the heat or final and entries are being taken from March 1.

Meanwhile, Allandale Tarn re-opens for the season on Saturday, February 17, at 9am. Gates open 8am water closed 4.30pm. They will be closed every Monday and Tuesday for the foreseable future but open the rest of the week.

Sea fishing now and the next round of the Edinburgh New Year Shore Angling League sponsored by The Edinburgh Angling Centre and The Fishing Meagastore plus Cox and Rawle is at Portobello (pictured by Nigel Duncan) on Friday, February 23.

Sagittarius has angling spaces for Saturday and Sunday at 7.45am out of Eyemouth at the time of writing. Cost £50 per person for six hour trip and skipper Derek Anderson says squid is the best current bait. Cod is the target. Call 07860 804316.

Five anglers fished Round Nine of the winter league organised by the Bass Rock Shore Angling League with Chris Empson, a Scottish international, scooping the top prize.

The Dunbar-based angler was the only man to weigh in and he recorded a 9oz whiting to win both pots. The final leg of the series is scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, at a venue to be decided.
