Stevie Burns from East Lothian won the £1,250 prize with a 5lb 10oz cod in the 25th annual Xmas Open hosted by St Serfs Sea Angling Club.

He beat a field of 123 other anglers with 38 weighing in a total of 98 fish from the six-hour event fished in difficult conditions with boundaries between Elie and St Andrews.

Second was Alan Henderson of Kettlebridge with a cod of 5lb 4oz and third Stuart Harris from Kirkcaldy with one of 4lb 5oz.

The heaviest bag prize went to Rab Gallacher (Glenrothes), last year’s winner of the heaviest cod prize. He totalled 14lb 4oz with Barry McEwan from East Lothian second on 9lb 8oz and Tam Dolan from Broughty Ferry third with a bag of 8lb 12oz. Michael Thomson from East Lothian was fourth with 8lb 6oz.

The heaviest bag in the juniors was won by Archie Brand of Balmullo with 4lb and Billy Noble (Buckhaven) was second with 3lb 10oz. Third was Blake Ferguson from Stirling with 3lb 4oz.
