Colleagues from leading Scottish law firm Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP (WJM) took part in a long-running community event being held in West Lothian to raise funds for a charity that supports mental health awareness.

The team of solicitors put their best foot forward to take part in his year’s Linlithgow 10K Road Race, with staff members’ children also taking part in the Fun Run and colleagues marshalling at the recently revived event.

In the lead up to the race, WJM staff had also been raising funds for Step Up for SAMH – the Scottish Association of Mental Health charity – in which team members participate in 14 days of activity on the Strava fitness app to help raise vital funds for the organisation.

Alison Marshall, a long-standing supporter of the event and Partner at WJM, will be joined by colleagues Alex Mudie, Lauren McFarlane, and Steven McBurnie to run in the 29th edition of the event, which will donate funds to the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.

Alison, who has been on the committee of the 10K race for Linlithgow Athletic Club since 2015, said: “We’re delighted to see the race return to normal this year and for our firm to get involved as the main sponsors of this event.

“Although the race was back last year after being cancelled in 2020, there were still some provisions in place as a result of Covid, so we expect to see a real buzz at this year’s event.

“The Linlithgow 10K is an important fixture of the local community and many of our staff members’ children will also be taking part in the fun run, with our team marshalling the event and cheering us on along the way.

“Our team have also been raising funds for SAMH by getting involved in the Step Up challenge and we’re delighted to be supporting this vital mental health charity in the lead up to our race.”

It comes as the legal firm announced its return as the headline sponsor of the landmark event, which has seen 1,000 participants sign up for this year’s event after postponement during the pandemic.

This will mark the eighth consecutive year that the firm has supported the town’s prestigious fundraising race, which takes place on 25 September starting on Linlithgow High Street and finishing in the historic Linlithgow Palace Peel area.

Alison continued: “We’re proud to be playing an active role in the local community and to be encouraging physical activity which we know plays a huge part in promoting mental health and wellbeing.

“I’m very much looking forward to the atmosphere on the day and seeing everyone come together for this much-loved event.”
