British Speedway chairman Rob Godfrey says every Championship club will be at the tapes next year, but there could be some team changes.

With the Premiership looking to keep the same riders where possible, Godfrey admits a tweak to some of the Championship teams may be necessary.

And he says British riders who were frozen out of original team line-ups for 2020 should be given first refusal on any vacant spots.

He added: “I have a list of 16 riders who merit a place in the Championship in my opinion,” he said. “If we lose any riders for whatever reason we should be giving riders from the list I have an opportunity.”

Godfrey said he was encouraged by the attitude of clubs after a Championship get-together and everyone is determined to come to the tapes next spring.

He added: “The scientists are saying things will look a lot different in the Spring and we are planning on an Easter start to the 2021 season. We’re already talking about fixtures and cup draws.

“I know there were fears we would lose a club or two because of the pandemic but everyone is keen and raring to go for 2021.”
