Hibs’ Head Coach Jack Ross believes that the game against top of the table Rangers on Sunday could provide a ‘good barometer’ as to where the team is at the moment.

The team have exceeded expectations already this season with only one defeat and one draw in the opening seven games and Ofir Marciano has yet to concede a goal from open play.

Rangers though have yet to concede a goal of any kind as they stormed to the top of the league but Ross is hopeful that his team have the firepower up front from new signing Kevin Nisbet and Christian Doidge to change that.

Hibs go into the game without two top midfielders however. Scott Allan will miss the game due to ‘health issues’ and his absence coupled with that of Jamie Murphy who will also miss out as he is not permitted to face parent club Rangers could allow new signing Stephen McGinn a place in the squad against the ‘Old Firm.’

Speaking at the pre-match press conference today, Ross said:” “It won’t define our season either way, whether it’s a positive or negative result.

“We’ve set lofty ambitions and challenges to the players from pre-season. and they’re going the right way about meeting them.

“In some ways it is a good barometer because to get where we want to be, we need to win games like Sunday against that level of opposition.

“Rangers’ form and results this season have been outstanding and the way they have dominated the ball this season makes it difficult for teams to lay a glove on them.

“But the one thing for us is that we’ve carried an attacking threat this season and we’ve played in a manner that means we have players who can be a threat in forward areas. We believe they will concede a goal and we hope that will be Sunday.”
