Gallery TEN is promoting European craftsmanship later this month, but the gallery has itself gained an important accolade with a listing in the Homo Faber Guide.

As far as owner Paul Musgrove is aware, this is the only Scottish based gallery included in the unique digital platform dedicated to fine European craftsmanship of beautiful objects.

TEN will showcase some of the artisans represented :

Scott Benefield – Glass

Effie Burns – Glass

Baldwin Guggisberg – Glass

Bryony Knox – Silversmith

Angus Ross – Furniture (the main photo above shows his Unstable stool)

Amanda Simmons – Glass

Karen Westland – Silversmith

Sylvia Levenson – Micheluzzi – Paul Stopler and others

The Homo Faber Guide is an online searchable selection of the best addresses in the city where collectors can buy the beautiful things featured in it, and one of those is in William Street at the West End. Art enthusiasts, collectors and galleries will all be connected through the platform.

It will be a treasure trove of European experiences: workshops, courses, exhibitions and guided tours offered by artisans, museums and galleries. Experience a new craft at the hands of a master, from screen printing in the UK, jewellery making in Portugal to embroidery in Italy. Find experiences on your doorstep or further afield in colourful European cities.

Craft your own bespoke itineraries and contact artisans, galleries and museums directly to book your tailor made experiences. Highly interactive, create your own account and ‘like’ your favourite artisans and recommend them to friends.

The guide also features an app designed to facilitate browsing on the go, discovering new craftspeople around every hidden corner. Create your own unique craftsmanship itinerary.

You are the master; the guide is your tool.

This is a project developed by The Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, which is an international non-profit organisation celebrating and preserving master craftsmanship, and strengthening its connection to the world of design.

The Foundation was set up in 2016 by Franco Cologni and Johann Rupert, and its mission is to create a European map of the most significant of artisans, designers, gallery owners, art curators, collectors and enthusiasts of high quality hand made products.

The project is all digital and will launch on 17 September 2020 with newly selected artisans appearing weekly. The aim is to have over 1,000 masters and rising talents by next year.

There are four sections:

Discover: Find a selection of the best master artisans and rising talents, ateliers and manufacturers of excellence from all over Europe. Connect with them directly through the guide.

Visit: Find museums, galleries and shops linked to fine craftsmanship to visit in all corners of the continent.

Experience: Find a curated list of workshop visits, artisan master classes, guided tours, and temporary exhibitions and fairs across Europe.

Ambassadors: Renowned individuals and partner institutions within the craft, creativity and design world who recommend their favourite artisans, galleries and experiences in their home cities.
