GTS Solutions’ chief executive Chris Thewlis has been appointed to the Strategy and Standards Group (SSG) of the UK Security Industry Authority (SIA).

Based at Canary Wharf in London, the SIA regulates and licenses the private security industry in the United Kingdom.

In his new role, Mr Thewlis will meet regularly with the SSG to advise on the creation of better career pathways, better training standards
and assist the industry to improve its operational standards.

“It’s a real honour to be given this role and I’m looking forward to working with the SIA to look at ways of helping improve industry standards, that add value to those organisations and individuals which actively adopt and support best practice in their policies, procedures and operations,” said Mr Thewlis.

GTS Solutions was founded in Edinburgh in 2012 and is the only social enterprise operating in the UK’s private security industry delivering
services to clients from private, public and third sectors.

With his commitment to the Security Industry Authority, Mr Thewlis will be relinquishing his policy board position at the Scottish Business Resilience Centre and his position as a board member at Social Enterprise Scotland.

Last month Mr Thewlis was recognised as one of the UK’s most inspiring social entrepreneurs.

UMi, in partnership with Social Enterprise Mark, Inspiring Women Changemakers and the School for Social Entrepreneurs, announced this year’s Social Entrepreneur Index of individuals who are leading the way, and named Chris among the UK’s top 55 social entrepreneurs for 2020.

The Index, chosen by a panel of experts, celebrates the “social impact, creativity and innovation” of Britain’s leading social entrepreneurs.
