Any groups who support those over 70 could be eligible for a grant run by housebuilder, Persimmon.

The company runs a scheme each month offering up to £1,000 to support the work of charities, clubs and organisations who work with this age group.

Doug Law, regional managing director of Persimmon Homes Scotland, said: “We have always believed in supporting the communities where we build, especially grassroot activities, and we hope people understand our desire to support specifically the over-70s, a vulnerable group in our society who we feel need our support.

“We hope as many local groups enter the scheme as possible so that we can help people throughout the region and support varied causes that put the elderly at the heart of their work.”

The Community Champions initiative is run by all of Persimmon Homes’ 31 operating businesses together with its Plc head office, with £64,000 donated nationally every month. Since it was launched in 2015, the Community Champions scheme has donated more than £3m to around 3,500 groups.

To be considered for a £1,000 donation, people need to complete an online form explaining why their charity or group, which works with the over-70s, deserves the donation and how it would be spent.
