There was a ‘Jambo’ presence at today’s Euro2020 Walking Football tournament at Toryglen in Glasgow.

Craig Levein, Jon Daly and Jose Quitongo joined former Dunfermline manager and current Provost of Fife Jim Leishman MBE at the Sports Centre next to Hampden Park to celebrate the European Championships coming to the city later this year.

The unique tournament which was organised by Glasgow Sport involves 12 teams from throughout the country who represent a different European City where games will be (Coronavirus permitting) taking place this summer.

Linlithgow Rose represent Amsterdam, Active Stirling represent Baku, Motherwell represent Bilbao, Alloa represent Bucharest, Gala Fairydean Rovers represent Budapest, North Lanark Leisure represent Copenhagen, Ayr United represent Dublin, Glasgow Sport West represent Glasgow, Glasgow sport East represent London, North Ayrshire represent Munich, Sauchie Juniors represent Rome and the Gerihatricks from East Kilbride represent St Petersberg.

At the half-way stage Glasgow currently top the table but all walking football has now been suspended until further notice.

Governing body Walking Football Scotland issued the following statement earlier this afternoon.

“Walking Football Scotland is suspending all organised events run under our auspices until further notice.

“This includes both National Leagues at Ravenscraig Regional Sports facility.

“In line with the statement from our partner the Scottish FA, the Board agreed this in the interests of the health and safety of players, especially our age group, our match officials, staff, supporters and the public in general.

“WFS ask all walking footballers to liaise with their own groups and clubs and to be sensible and safe.

Please keep up to date with information on Coronavirus”
