Derek Morrison won the latest leg of the Bass Rock Shore Angling League, Winter Series on a night in which a newcomer made a costly mistake.

Nine anglers fished the 11th leg which was an East Lothian rover with the starting point of Whitekirk. Anglers could pick their preferred mark.

The event was held on one of the best evenings so far this winter with the temperature around 12C. The wind south-west was 11mph and there was a slight swell.

It proved tough going and Gifford-based Morrison only landed one fish, a 2lb 4oz cod, which was good enough to take him to the top of the podium.

Craig Ogilvie (North Berwick) was second and he landed four flat fish weighing 1lb 15oz and third was Barry McEwan of Port Seton with one fish for 1lb 11oz. The picture shows Craig (left) and Barry during the summer series.

Other placings were: 4, Allan Brown (Dunbar) 1 fish for 1lb 2oz; 5 Colin McEwan (Port Seton), 1 fish 10oz; 6, Cameron Cunningham (Port Seton, 1 fish for 9oz.

John Flockhart (Haddington) landed three flatties for 2lb 1oz and did not enter the sweep otherwise he would have been in the money.

No doubt he will next time in the final leg of the winter series. The date is February 5 at a venue to be confirmed.
