SGB Premiership, play-off, semi-final, second-leg: Ipswich Witches 54, Poole Pirates 36 (agg: 94-86)

Edinburgh Monarchs racer James Sarjeant claimed a vital third place in the second last race as Ipswich Witches came from ten points down after the first-leg to beat defending play-off champions Poole Pirates and take their place in the Grand Final.

The 25-year-old from Sheffield held off Monarchs skipper Ricky Wells (pictured) to earn that vital point for the Suffolk side who only returned to the top flight of British speedway this season.

Sarjeant finished with four points on the night and his Edinburgh team-mate Cameron Heeps scored seven to help take Ipswich to the final.

Former Glasgow Tigers duo Richard Lawson and Chris Harris were also prominent in the semi-final.

Wells misfired badly, scoring only one point, but Poole skipper Josh Grajczonek, a former Glasgow rider, was prominent for the beaten side with ten points.

Berwick Bandits’ star Thomas H Jonasson, who fell heavily in the first-leg, scored two points but was obviously still suffering from the injury.

Ipswich now meet the winners of the other semi-final, Wolverhampton Wolves or Swindon Robins, in the Grand Final.
