Berwick Bandits travel to rock bottom Birmingham Brummies Bandits on Wednesday looking to keep their slim play-off hopes alive.

The Borders club, skippered by Kevin Doolan (pictured) have sneaked into fifth spot in the 11-strong SGB Championships after back-to-back wins over Edinburgh Monarchs and Glasgow Tigers on Saturday night.

Monarchs skidded out of play-off contention after going down 60-30 and Glasgow’s title bid faltered after losing 48-41.

Berwick’s’ team manager Gary Flint said: “We cannot afford to lose any more league points if we are to cling to our slim chance of a play- off place.

“On Saturday, we rode with that determination that shows if we do make the title play-offs the rest had better watch out.

“We will be going to Birmingham on Wednesday looking for all four points.”

SGB Championship: Newcastle Diamonds 51, Edinburgh Monarchs 39

Ex-Glasgow Tigers star Richard Lawson powered to 16 points as a guest rider but he could not prevent Edinburgh Monarchs skidding to defeat at Newcastle Diamonds.

Josh Pickering chipped in with ten points for Monarchs but Diamonds won 51-39 with former Edinburgh star Steve Worrall top scoring with 13 points for injury-hit Newcastle.
