Medals won by Hibs’ legendary forward Lawrie Reilly have been purchased by the Hibernian Historical Trust for £12,000 and will be displayed inside Easter Road Stadium.
The Trust appealed for and received donations from supporters in order to bid for the lot which included two championship medals won in 1951 and 1952.
Arguably the greatest player in the Club’s history, Lawrie Reilly holds the record for the most international caps won by a player while at Easter Road.
The only one of the ‘Famous Five’ to support Hibs as a schoolboy, he spent his entire career at Easter Road and a street near to the stadium was named in his honour following his death six years ago.
Reilly hung up his boots as Hibs top League goal scorer tallying 187 goals, a record that is firmly held to this day.
The Trust – an Independent Charity, based in Easter Road Stadium, was formed to protect, display and acquire Hibernian memorabilia.
One of its aims is to ensure that important artefacts are secured, displayed and are available for the Hibernian family to see and observe at the home of our Club. In the past, it has acquired a number of important medals and awards for our collection, including the complete set of medals won by Gordon Smith.
A number of generous supporters pledged financial support to supplement the funds available.
