Former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke is to return to the smash hit musical The Bodyguard when the show heads to Edinburgh next month. Burke, whose debut single Hallelujah sold over a million copies in the UK in 2008, will perform the role of Rachel Marron during the evening performances with Jennlee Shallow performing the role in the matinee shows.

Joining them for the Edinburgh run will be Benoît Maréchal (Spiral) as Frank Farmer, Micha Richardson (Legally Blonde) as Nicki Marron, Peter Landi (This House) as Bill Devaney, Craig Berry (Mamma Mia!) as Tony, Gary Turner (Emmerdale) as  Sy Spector, Phil Atkinson (Little Shop of Horrors) as The Stalker and Simon Cotton (Clockwork Orange) as Ray Court.

Produced by Michael Harrison and David Ian, The Bodyguard is based on the 1992 Oscar nominated film which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.

It’s the story of former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, who is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge; what they don’t expect is to fall in love. A romantic thriller, The Bodyguard features a host of classic songs including Queen of the Night, So Emotional, One Moment in Time, Saving All My Love, Run to You, I Have Nothing, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and one of the biggest hit songs of all time – I Will Always Love You.

The Bodyguard is on at the Edinburgh Playhouse from 9th to 20th July 2019. Tickets here
