A police investigation is underway after a teenager was seriously injured during an attack on Gilmerton Road.
The incident took place about 17.15 last night.
Emergency services cordoned off the area to allow for a forensic examination.
The teenager is being treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Police said an investigation is ongoing and appealed for witnesses.
