Police have appealed for witnesses after the attempted theft of a dog from a garden in Midlothian.

The culprit go out of a red car before reaching over a fence to grab the dog, but left when challenged by a neighbour.

The incident happened in George Terrace, Loanhead, on Monday evening. 

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Midlothian are investigating following a report of an attempted dog theft in Loanhead. “The incident happened around 6.10pm on Monday, April 22 within a garden in George Terrace.

“A male was seen to exit a red car and reach over a garden fence before being challenged by a neighbour and leaving the area.

“Inquiries are ongoing to identify this individual and anyone with information is asked to come forward.”
