A feel-good musical that has been seen by over 60 million people all over the world is to return to Edinburgh next year, marking twenty years since it premiered in London.
MAMMA MIA! – the brainchild of producer Judy Craymer – is the story of a mother, a daughter and three possible fathers unfolding on a Greek island to the background of Abba songs. The musical will be performed at the Edinburgh Playhouse next September.
The show became a hugely successful film in 2008 with the sequel – Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – released earlier this year.
Judy Craymer, Creator and Producer of MAMMA MIA! said: “We are really thrilled to be bringing MAMMA MIA! back to Edinburgh and especially as we celebrate twenty years since the musical first opened in London’s West End. It’s a very special year. We are really looking forward to welcoming new audiences to the show as well as all those who would love to see it again.”
Theatre Director at the Edinburgh Playhouse Colin Marr added: “We are absolutely delighted that MAMMA MIA! is returning to the Playhouse next year, as it has to be one of Edinburgh’s favourite shows. We are even more delighted that we will launch the UK Tour on such an important milestone in the show’s history.”
MAMMA MIA! will be at the Edinburgh Playhouse from 19th to 28th September 2019.
